Chelsea had the chance to sign Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic before his move to Al-Nassr.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist recently stated on his Substack that Marcelo Brozovic was “one player offered” to Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The Blues, though, did not bite and signed Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia instead to strengthen their midfield.
Brozovic helped Inter Milan to reach the Champions League final last term before leaving for Saudi Arabia to join Al-Nassr.
Marcelo Brozovic does not fit Chelsea’s transfer strategy
Brozovic is certainly a quality midfielder, with former Inter Milan defender Dario Simic describing his compatriot as an “excellent” player.
However, he does not fit Chelsea’s transfer strategy. The Blues are clearly trying to bring down the average age of their squad, signing 21-year-old Caicedo and 19-year-old Lavia.
They want young players, so Brozovic, now 30, was probably never a viable option for Chelsea’s recruitment team.

There is now the danger of Chelsea not having enough experience in their squad, but they have a direction that they want to go in and seem determined to stay on that path.
At present, you would have to say it is not bearing much fruit. But with time, maybe this young Chelsea team will eventually explode and take the club back to where it once was.
Based on last season and the beginning of this one, though, it looks like there are going to be some painful moments at Stamford Bridge for these boys and supporters.
