Ben Jacobs has now provided an update on what sources at Chelsea are saying about the Mason Mount situation.
The Chelsea No.19 is yet to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge with his current terms expiring in 12 months, and Manchester United have been sniffing around.
So, what is the latest on Mason Mount and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, Jacobs revealed that Chelsea could budge from their huge asking price – which is in the region of £75m – if Mount firmly states he isn’t going to sign a new contract.
The CBS Sports journalist added that Manchester United can use James Maddison’s £40m asking price to their advantage by comparing the two situations.

Jacobs told The United Stand: “Sources on the Chelsea side indicate that if Mount says to Chelsea – after a formal offer comes in – that he’s not going to sign a new deal and wants to leave, Chelsea may settle for something a little bit less.
“If you’re Manchester United, you look at the James Maddison fee – which is likely to be around £40m – and you say, how can you be asking for double Maddison when Mount has got so little time left on his contract?
“Manchester United are certainly of the belief that it won’t be £70m or £75m. If it’s above £60m, they’ll walk away from the deal. If it drops below £60m they’re confident of getting it done.”
Chelsea should welcome £60m Mount offer
If Chelsea receive a bid of £60m or slightly less for Mount, the Blues would be foolish to reject it.
The 24-year-old seemingly has no intention of staying at Stamford Bridge, with The Athletic stating that he is leaning towards a move to Manchester United.

Therefore, Chelsea must seek a swift resolution to this situation, as Mauricio Pochettino needs to know whether he will have Mount in his squad for the 2023/24 campaign, or if he is going to get around £60m to find a replacement.
Time is of the essence for Chelsea, so hopefully, we see a conclusion to this saga soon.
