Chelsea may be interested in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.
Phillips has reported on his Substack on Wednesday morning that Chelsea have Andriy Lunin, 24, on their transfer radar.
He’s explained that the Blues may turn to Real Madrid’s backup keeper amid rumours that Kepa Arrizabalaga could exit Stamford Bridge.
Journalist Kerry Hau has reported on Twitter that Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has now suggested his side should sign Kepa in this summer transfer window.
If Chelsea sell the 28-year-old shot-stopper, we’re convinced they’ll need to go out and sign a replacement keeper before the summer window closes.
The Blues have added Robert Sanchez from Brighton to their ranks, but they’ll be a senior gloveman light if Kepa goes.
Lunin is an interesting new name to appear in the Chelsea transfer rumour mill.
The goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in 12 appearances last season for Real Madrid, but he’s in the very tough spot of playing understudy to Thibaut Courtois.
Interestingly, Marca claimed at the start of August that Spanish giants Madrid are prepared to sell Lunin this summer. The report added that the Ukraine international has a price tag of around €8million (£7million).
We’ll wait to hear more developments on Lunin before getting too optimistic, but the Ukraine international is certainly an intriguing target.
Our biggest concern is that the Madrid man has spent the majority of the last few years warming the bench on a matchday. You could argue he gets to train every single day with one of the world’s best in his position, though.
