Chelsea are unlikely to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the January transfer window.
Chelsea have been linked with Benjamin Sesko, with The Athletic reporting that the Blues have been scouting the 20-year-old and that they admire him.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been discussing Sesko on Substack, this is not a transfer for January.
While the journalist described the Slovenian as “one of the best talents in the world” who is being tracked by everyone, he has ruled out a move next month.
It is a blow for Chelsea, who could do with a new striker. Nicolas Jackson has been up and down this season, with Alan Smith feeling that he is lacking confidence at the minute, while the Senegal international is due to jet off to the Africa Cup of Nations soon. But it does not look like Sesko is going to be the solution.
Benjamin Sesko unlikely to leave in January
While Leipzig agreed a deal to sign Sesko from Red Bull Salzburg last year, the Slovenia international only arrived at the German club during the summer.
Considering that, it is not a surprise to hear that he could stay in the Bundesliga a bit longer. His transfer to Leipzig would have been a bit pointless if he left so soon.
Ultimately, if Chelsea do want to sign a new centre-forward in January, they are probably going to have to look elsewhere.
Sesko could become a viable option at the end of the season, but at this moment in time, not so much. So the Blues are going to have to turn to another name or rely on Jackson, Armando Broja and Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku is not a traditional striker, but he can play as one and has already scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea.
