'One of the priorities': Chelsea now want £30m player to sign new contract, Fabrizio Romano claims

Chelsea are reportedly keen to tie their midfielder N’Golo Kante down to a new contract.

Well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Kante, along with teammate Mason Mount, are two Blues players the club are desperate to keep at Stamford Bridge.

It’s been reported extending their deals will be a priority once new owners are in place and sanctions are lifted.

Kante, 31, is a special player in the Chelsea squad that’s still recognised as one of the very best midfielders around.

The £30million star’s current deal is due to run out in 2023, though.

If Blues manager Thomas Tuchel wants him to remain as an important player moving forward, it seems imperative that a new contract is sorted as soon as possible.

Tuchel recently said it’s a joy to coach Kante, so it seems a no-brainer to secure his long-term future.

Some may point to the fact that a few injury issues have started to creep into his game and that he may not always be the same box-to-box midfielder that dominates opponents. However, he’s shown enough individual performances during the course of this season to prove he’s far from finished yet.

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves previously described Kante as a defensive “monster”.

Best Chelsea midfield

Tuchel’s regularly rotated his options in the centre of the park during a busy campaign, but he must already be thinking about the combination he starts in this month’s FA Cup final against Liverpool.

There’s only two Premier League games to play before the cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Kante and Mateo Kovacic are arguably the two Chelsea central midfielders that are the most consistent, plus are very difficult for opponents to face.

However, Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s found some form to throw his name into the hat. You can’t count out the experience of Jorginho, too.
