Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed to the Simon Phillips Substack that Graham Potter is a long-term admirer of Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Englishman next summer as they look to address the void of a striker at the club.

Despite the addition of Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, the outright striker position may be a concern for the owners when the window opens again.

In terms of pure on the pitch ability, there is not much better on display in the Premier League than Toney.

He has 13 goals in just 19 games this season in the Premier League, with Chelsea ironically one of the only sides he has not found the net against this year.

Jacobs has claimed he is one of the names on list as a potential target, with Potter already giving his personal seal of approval.

He said: “Chelsea are very likely to add a traditional striker in summer. They have lots of names on their radar.

“It’s true, Graham Potter does like Ivan Toney, but I am sure they’ll watch closely how he’s punished for alleged gambling charges before discussing further. I don’t think there’s anything too concrete on Toney yet. It’s one to watch as we head towards the summer.”

Potter’s admiration has not come from nowhere. He previously described the striker as ‘dangerous’.

Obviously, his off the pitch matters may have an effect on if they want to sign him, with there being a potential that he could be in for a lengthy ban.

The Blues will also be bringing in Christopher Nkunku at the end of the season. However, he has stated today that he far prefers playing in a position behind the striker.
