There has been plenty of speculation regarding West Ham’s Declan Rice this summer and several reports have suggested Chelsea are chasing his signature in this current transfer window.
The Telegraph recently claimed that the 21-year-old is a top target for Chelsea boss Frank Lampard still, despite the fact his current club are not looking to sell.
But could fresh reports give Chelsea a boost in their attempt to sign the England international?
Premier League club West Ham are now being linked with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who is familiar to English audiences from his time with Aston Villa and Everton.
According to French publication Le10 Sport, West Ham are one of several Premier League teams that are interested in signing Gueye alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
Despite only joining them last summer, the 30-year-old is considered likely to leave the French champions this summer.
Chelsea will surely view this news as an encouraging sign and it’s perhaps one that can make them push harder to try sign Rice.
West Ham have highly-rated youngster Rice as their outstanding defensive midfielder in their XI, but a pursuit of all-action midfielder Gueye suggests they are looking to strengthen that position.
It seems unlikely that both could fit into the same West Ham XI, so Chelsea should be trying to prize Rice away from the London Stadium and add him to the crop of talented youngsters at Stamford Bridge.
He’s a versatile player that can play at centre-back or in the middle of the park and if Lampard is desperate to sign him, the club should continue to back like they have all summer.
