Conor Gallagher could now leave Chelsea for Tottenham following the imminent arrival of Cole Palmer.

That is according to the Telegraph.

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea quickly wrapped up a deal to sign the Manchester City No.80 on Wednesday.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will pay £45m in total, with £40m upfront and a further £5m in add-ons.

The reliable Italian journalist adds that Palmer will undergo his medical with Chelsea today (Thursday).

Now – however – his arrival could force Gallagher out of Stamford Bridge, just hours after the England international captained his boyhood side against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The Telegraph believe Chelsea view Palmer as someone who can play at No.10 or on the right wing.

It is said that Chelsea also view Gallagher as an option in those areas, and could accept a £50m bid from Tottenham as a result of signing competition for the 23-year-old.

Spurs are believed to have been encouraged to bid for Gallagher after seeing Chelsea make a move for Palmer, although the north Londoners would have to offer £50m – the Blues rejected £40m from West Ham earlier this summer, so an offer in that region will not be enough.

Chelsea should keep Gallagher away from Tottenham despite Palmer arrival

In our view, Gallagher and Palmer can coexist at Stamford Bridge – they are quite different players despite operating in similar positions.

The Chelsea No.23 is an energetic, dynamic terrier in the middle of the park when used slightly higher up, pressing opponents superbly before contributing to the attack like we saw at Crystal Palace.

For whatever reason, Gallagher has not been used properly since returning to Chelsea.

In regards to Palmer, the 21-year-old is a more traditional winger who likes to cut inside, so we don’t understand why Mauricio Pochettino would feel the need to sell Gallagher because of Palmer, unless it is for financial reasons.
