The idea of possibly trading in Timo Werner for Robert Lewandowski has made a section of Chelsea supporters go weak at the knees.
According to Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window podcast, the Blues have undergone discussions with Lewandowski’s agent about a surprising switch to Stamford Bridge.
A transfer that could see Werner flying in the opposite direction, back to the league he left behind last summer.
Of course, many moving parts have to work for this deal to even get off the ground, let alone remain airborne and land again.
But it certainly had Chelsea fans begging for such an exchange to take place.

Who gets the raw end of the deal?
On paper, Chelsea would surely be sitting prettier than Bayern Munich if they swapped Werner for Lewandowski.
The Polish international finished second behind Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or prize, whilst simultaneously being awarded the Striker of the Year honour.
He scored a mere 48 goals last season – 55 the campaign before that – and is already on 25 for the current term.
Put that into perspective, Werner has scored 49 in total since the beginning of 2019/20.
Only 15 of those have arrived in a Chelsea shirt, an indication of the 25-year-old’s English struggles.
Waving goodbye to Werner?
Maybe a return to the Bundesliga is the exact remedy the speedy attacker needs to reboot his career.
And perhaps Lewandowski’s legacy will not be complete unless he tries out the Premier League.
All hypotheticals for now, yet the longer Werner keeps missing the target, the sooner he might depart South West London.
