Maurizio Sarri and Lazio are now in advanced talks to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea as negotiations continue to progress well.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
What’s the story?
Well, the Daily Mail claimed that the England international is someone likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and Chelsea value the 22-year-old at a sum of £10m.
Now – however – Lazio appear to have muscled their way to the front of the queue.
Romano believes the Italian giants are in advanced talks to sign Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea, and the forward himself considers Sarri’s side to be a good option at this stage of his career.
The Chelsea academy graduate struggled last season while on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, scoring just one goal in 21 appearances.
Romano has since added that any exit for Hudson-Odoi will be a permanent departure, as he only has 12 months remaining on his contract in west London.
Sarri reunion at Lazio will be good for Hudson-Odoi as Chelsea career stalls
In our view, a move to the Stadio Olimpico will do wonders for Hudson-Odoi.
In the Londoner’s short career so far, it feels as if Sarri is the only manager who has truly backed him.
It was the Italian who held the reins at Stamford Bridge when Bayern Munich came calling with a £40m bid for Hudson-Odoi, an offer Chelsea and Sarri rejected as the Blues wanted to keep him around.
Sarri has even previously called the winger a “very strong” player with “great character” – clearly, there is a lot of respect there.
Unfortunately, the 64-year-old didn’t last long at Chelsea before he was replaced by Frank Lampard, who also did well with Hudson-Odoi until things changed under Thomas Tuchel.
Hopefully, while working under a familiar face in Sarri, Hudson-Odoi can rediscover his old form at Lazio, should the deal go through.
