‘Pushing and insisting’: Romano says there is only one club reported Chelsea target wants to join this month

Fabrizio Romano named Barcelona as the only team Nicolas Tagliafico wants to sign for in January amidst reported interest from Chelsea.

Speaking in his own YouTube channel, Romano said the Ajax defender is actively spearheading a possible move to the Camp Nou.

Tagliafico has just over a year left on his current deal with the Dutch champions, having signed for them in 2018.

He’s appeared over 150 times for Ajax, won two Eredivisie titles and played a big role in that epic run to the Champions League semi-finals.

However, his time in the capital is seemingly coming to an end.

The full-backs minutes have certainly been fewer from seasons gone by, managing just one start from the last 13 league matches.

Wanted by Barca

Understandably, the Argentine international wants to try a new challenge whilst he is still able to do so.

At 29, Tagliafico’s shelf life at the highest level has entered into its final stretch.

Hence why he is keen for a move this month, with his eyes seemingly fixated on Barca.

The Spanish club are apparently reciprocating this fond gaze, as they continue to rebuild under Xavi.

“Tagliafico is out of contract in 2023 and this is why the situation for Ajax looks dangerous because Tagliafico is not a starter right now, so it’s normal that he is considering wanting to leave the club,” said Romano.

“Now Barcelona are interested.

“Tagliafico himself is pushing with Ajax to leave the club in January. He is pushing and insisting with the club as it’s only his desire to go to Barcelona. He wants to go to Barca.”

Where do Chelsea come into all this?

This will be great news for Barcelona, but not so for much for Chelsea.

According to Tcy Sports, the Blues identified the left-back as a possible solution to their wing-back woes.

They have been compiling a rather long list of names to potentially fill in for Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Lucas Digne has already been chalked off after signing for Aston Villa, whilst recalling Emerson Palmieri feels unlikely.

However, if Tagliafico is allowed to giant the La Liga side, they might be willing to relinquish Sergino Dest, another reportedly on Chelsea’s radar.

The transfer revolving door could be in full swing before too long!
