Chelsea are expected to have a quiet January transfer window, but one player’s future who will hopefully be determined is Raheem Sterling.

Sterling is not in the Blues’ Premier League squad and has not played a minute this season after returning from his loan move at Arsenal.

There were reports that Bayern Munich were interested in Sterling over the summer, however a deal did not materialise.

Enzo Maresca at Chelsea:

91 games
55 wins
16 draws
20 losses

Is this a step backwards, or another exciting young manager who will hit the ground running at Chelsea?

It has always been believed that the winger would rather stay in London, leading to links to the likes of Fulham and West Ham.

Raheem Sterling now open to leaving London to force Chelsea exit

However, it doesn’t seem as if either of those moves are particularly appealing to him, leading him to having a change of heart over where he wants to play his football.

According to journalist Sami Mokbel, the 31-year-old is now open to a switch outside of the capital, only wanting a permanent move to be agreed.

He said: “Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling open to moving away from London amid links with West Ham and Fulham. Sterling settled in the capital but if conditions are attractive and offers his career and family stability, he is willing to uproot. Player wants permanent switch, no loan.”

The Blues will be keen to get the England international’s wages off their books. He is by far the highest paid player at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling’s flop signing has changed Chelsea’s model

After joining the club in 2022, it has become clear that the signing of Sterling has not worked out as they would have hoped.

Chelsea could still sign a new attacker after cooling their interest in Antoine Semenyo. Who would you target, or are you content with Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens?

He was one of the first signings under the Todd Boehly, and due to the lack of success has altered the club’s approach in future markets.

Chelsea are not offering big wages to potential targets anymore, likely seeing them ruled out of the running for gamechanging additions.

The likes of Michael Olise and Victor Osimhen have previously been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge, however have ended up playing elsewhere.
