The 26-year-old has become a regular starter for his club following Thiago Silva’s departure in 2020.

Chelsea’s interest in centre-backs has been well documented this summer, with fellow Frenchmen Jules Kounde seemingly at the top of their list.

The Sevilla man is reportedly close to joining the Blues after the deal fell through last summer.

The Blues have also been rumoured to be interested in Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt, however his speculated price tag potentially putting the club off a deal.

The club are keen to add reinforcements at the back, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s departures already announced.

Kimpembe looks a good option as a direct replacement for Rudiger, despite not normally featuring in a back three.

Rudiger worked wonders playing on the left of defence despite being right footed, an issue the Frenchman solves by being left footed.

The France international has developed massively since breaking into the first team in 2015, becoming more comfortable on the ball. This is an essential skill for any Blues target considering their style of play, which demands their defenders are not scared to work around any opposition press.
