Aston Villa are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy this summer, according to reports.

Edouard Mendy lost his starting position at Stamford Bridge last season, which is why it’s no surprise he’s linked with a potential move away in the transfer window.

The £22million star was rated the best keeper in the world as recently as a couple of years ago, but his form and reputation has declined significantly in the past 18 months.

The Athletic claims that Premier League side Villa are currently keeping an eye on Mendy amid doubts over Emiliano Martinez’s future.

It definitely sounds like the 31-year-old is eager to leave Chelsea. This is because the report adds he’s switched agents to try help him find a new club.

Foot Mercato claimed earlier this month that Chelsea’s incoming manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has decided to sell Edouard Mendy after making Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana a priority.

Mendy’s cemented himself in Chelsea history with his heroics in the Champions League. He was colossus in-between the sticks en route to the Blues becoming champions of Europe a couple of years ago.

However, everyone has noticed a drop off in his levels.

We think it’s the right time for him to move on and believe he can rediscover his top form elsewhere.

Unai Emery’s Villa, who will play in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season, could be a great fit for Mendy.

It’s not mentioned how much Chelsea will demand to sell the Senegal international, but we would hope to breakeven on his £22million cost.
