Report: 24-year-old who Chelsea apparently want to sign has told his manager he is ready to leave
Ousmane Dembele has apparently hinted to Barcelona boss Xavi that he is prepared to leave the club next summer amidst reported interest from Chelsea.
This is according to Spanish reporter and former footballer, Jordi Jota, who claimed Xavi is now aware of Dembele’s standpoint about his future at the Camp Nou.
“Dembele has told Xavi not to count on him for next year,” said Jota live on El Chiringuito.
“He has an offer from England of a lot of money, with a transfer bonus because he would go free.”
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
The name of the English suitor remained a mystery, although La Sexta suggested that it was Newcastle United who had made the bid.
Due to their sudden influx of finances following the Saudi-Arabian-backed takeover of St James’ Park, a move for Dembele wouldn’t be the most surprising.
After all, the France international is out of contract in June and will be able to negotiate a preliminary deal with foreign teams after the New Year.
Chelsea intrigue
A switch to the Premier League is always an enticing one, especially if the money being offered is beyond an individual’s wildest dreams.
However, if Newcastle are not the anonymous party, then Chelsea may well be.
Only yesterday, it was suggested by Mundo Deportivo that the Blues have been pressurising Barca to hand Dembele over to them.
Other than the lure of London life, the 24-year-old might also be tempted to link up with his old teacher.
He and Thomas Tuchel worked together at Borussia Dortmund before the attacker set sail for Spain in 2017.
Damage goods
Injuries have hampered the Frenchman’s stay in La Liga, to the extent some might be put off by his medical history.
Yet, there is still a talented player just waiting to be fully unleashed to the sporting world.
“He’s excellent in a one-on-one situation and can play with both feet,” said ex-Barca manager Ronald Koeman last season.
Not a bad reference, but one Dembele must build upon if he is to convince Chelsea to acquire his signature.
