Edouard Mendy has reportedly refused to sign a new contract because he feels undervalued by Chelsea.

According to the Sun, the goalkeeper rejected the chance to land a fresh six-year deal due to the disrespect he believes the club are displaying.

Mendy’s apparent problem with the Stamford Bridge heirehcy boils down to wages.

The 30-year-old wants his contribution to Chelsea to be rewarded with a pay rise.

Since his move to South West London in 2020, he has won the Champions League and Club World Cup, whilst also earning the title of FIFA and UEFA’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

Edouard Mendy snubs new deal

Despite bringing success to the Blues, the Senegal international is still one of the lowest paid members of the senior squad.

He currently receives around £50,000-per-week, nearly a third of what his ‘keeper comrade Kepa Arrizabalaga rakes in.

Kepa trumps his fellow gloved companion for financial reward, even though he has largely been the number two in the past few years.

Only this season has the Spaniard been able to get a decent run between the sticks, owed by the injury Mendy picked up earlier in the campaign.

With Premier League football resuming next week, the two goalies will be battling it out once again for Graham Potter’s hand.

Although, one of them might not be around for long to enough to persuade Potter properly.

Chelsea’s coach is said to be considering selling one, or both, of the shot-stopping pair, having not yet been convinced by their skills.

Mendy might have made his manager’s decision for him by refusing the long-term deal.

According to a source at the Sun, there is a sense the Senegalese ‘is not being shown enough respect’ by the powers controlling Cobham.

January is just around the corner, an opportunity for Mendy or Kepa to make themselves available for the market.
