AC Milan are reportedly looking for a reliable defender and considering Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen as one of the options.
Italian outlet Calciomercato claimed Milan had their previous attempt to sign the 23-year-old turned down by Chelsea in January. As a result, Milan signed Simon Kjaer on loan instead.
But the report said the Rossoneri are considering a summer move for Christensen, who is seen as a solid option to accompany Alessio Romagnoli in Milan’s defence.
The Denmark international is under contract with Chelsea until 2022 and has made 15 starts in the Premier League under Frank Lampard.
Chelsea currently have four centre-backs – Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Anthony Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori – battling for two spots in the starting line-up.
Based on Chelsea’s recent games, Christensen has gained Lampard’s trust to be the first-choice centre-back alongside Rudiger.
The report also mentioned that Milan and Chelsea have a good relationship despite the former have also rejecting the Blues’ previous approach for Romagnoli.
Having been a regular in Chelsea’s first-team for quite some time, Christensen spent two seasons on loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Moenchengladbach.
His impressive performances for the German outfit grabbed the attention of former manager Antonio Conte and Christensen has been one of the most consistent defenders at Chelsea. He featured in 40 games in all competitions in 2017/2018.
