Reports from Italy have claimed that Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries is a fan of the idea of joining Chelsea.

According to Calcio Mercato, Stamford Bridge is an attractive destination for the Dutchman, with the Blues still holding an interest in signing him.

The Blues were reportedly keen to sign the Inter wing-back during this summer, as they planned a complete defensive overhaul following numerous departures at the back.

Despite already having Reece James as part of the squad, and him being one of the most important members of the squad, Thomas Tuchel often saw the Englishman as someone who can play on the right of a back three, so a right-back was not off the table.

Eventually, the Blues went a different direction and decided on three different defensive signings, bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana as defensive reinforcements.

Despite all of those signings, Calcio Mercato have claimed that those talks are still very much not off the table, with Inter and Chelsea being in contact over more than one deal.

Dumfries likes Chelsea

The report goes on to say that the Nerazzurri are keen on bringing in Trevoh Chalobah in the future, while they still have an interest in extending their time with Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan.

Chalobah has struggled to get minutes this season, playing just once under former manager Thomas Tuchel.

However, it has been reported that the new manager Graham Potter potentially sees his future in midfield, opening an avenue to the starting XI.

Dumfries on the other hand has impressed in the past, particularly at the 2021 Euros when Ally McCoist described him as ‘amazing’.

Despite his quality, it is yet to be seen if Potter prefers utilising James out wide, which would certainly make things difficult for any new signing to get game time.
