Report: 'Amazing' player now told to stay away from training, after claims he could be about to sign for Chelsea
Brighton defender Marc Cucurella has reportedly been left out of first-team training by his current club amid transfer links to Chelsea.
According to The Athletic, Brighton manager Graham Potter has informed the 24-year-old star to stay away from his side’s training session while they prepare for the start of the new season this weekend.
It is understood the Premier League boss doesn’t want the added drama of a transfer saga to distract his group.
It’s been widely covered in the media that Chelsea could be about to sign the left-back. For example, Fabrizio Romano claims a £52.5million deal has been sorted between the clubs ahead of an imminent transfer to Stamford Bridge.
However, Brighton did release a statement last night to insist no deal has been agreed to sell Cucurella.
Cucurella left out of Brighton training
It feels like all the signs are pointing towards Cucurella going through the exit doors at the AMEX Stadium.
He’s the standout individual in the Brighton ranks that you want playing under any circumstance, so to omit him from training just three days before their opening Premier League game is quite telling.
Described as “amazing” by Lewis Dunk, Cucurella should turn out to be quite the addition to Chelsea’s defensive options.
He’s an energetic left-footer that can play the left wing-back role extremely effectively, providing such great speed, tenacity and energy. It’s got the makings of a fascinating battle with current Blues star Ben Chilwell for the role, though.
Cucurella’s versatility to cover as a centre-back in a back three is another reason he should be confident of regular minutes.
