Report: Antonio Conte 'really likes' Chelsea player; makes him priority summer target

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte is keen on signing a new left wing-back, and Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri, whom he “really likes”, is among the top targets, according to Calciomercato.

Inter currently have a nine-point lead at the top of Serie A table under the former Chelsea boss.

It is incredible how Conte has made his preferred back-three system (3-5-2, in Inter’s case) work time and time again, similar to what he did to his title-winning Chelsea side in 2016/17.

One thing is certain — Conte likes to attack from wide. Inter has recorded more crosses (165) than any side in the league.

While Achraf Hakimi has done really well on the right side of the pitch since arriving last summer, Conte is reportedly not satisfied with his left side options.

According to Calciomercato, Conte considers signing a new left wingback as a priority this summer.

The report claims Ashley Young could return to the Premier League at the end of the season, while Conte doesn’t see Ivan Perisic as a “refined crosser”.

Instead, the report added, Conte really likes the Italy international and wants him as an “extra weapon” on the left flank.

Emerson has been struggling for minutes at Chelsea for a few seasons already now and the Blues would reportedly be willing to sell for €20million (£17.2m).

From what we have seen so far, Tuchel seems to consider Emerson as a rotational player, behind both Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell.

It might not be such a bad idea to cash in on him this summer, particularly considering Tuchel has also shown a tendency to use the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic in wing-back roles.
