Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and his agent are reportedly trying to find a new club to join after questions over his Chelsea future emerged.
It has been twice in a row now that the 27-year-old was excluded from Chelsea’s matchday squad following Wednesday’s home win over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Frank Lampard opted for Thiago Silva and Fikayo Tomori as his starting centre-back pair, while for the bench option he went with Kurt Zouma.
“That is just a choice at the moment,” Lampard told the media (via the Metro) when asked about Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s absence from the squad.
“Again with the centre-halves I can’t have them all in the squad.”
Lampard also suggested that there could be some upcoming departures, as he is aware that they might need to trim the squad after the summer spending spree.
“There might be movement, we know that, but nothing is concrete so don’t read too much into those selections at the minute.”
According to a report from the Telegraph, though, it might have sealed Rudiger’s departure from Stamford Bridge, most likely on loan, before the closure of the transfer window on October 5.
The Germany international and his agent reportedly will attempt to find a suitable destination, with Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli as the two clubs they are likely to try, although it remains unclear whether they would be interested.
Another report from German outlet Kicker also mentioned Barcelona and his former club Roma as potential loan options for the centre-back.
Kicker’s report said that Rudiger’s desire to make the Germany squad for next year’s Euros as one of the driving forces behind his decision to leave and get regular playing time elsewhere.
