Report: Arsenal plan potential move for Tuchel's key Chelsea player
Arsenal are considering a “shock” move for Chelsea star N’Golo Kante, who is in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, according to The Daily Star.
The 31-year-old is one of the Chelsea players who have entered the final 12 months of their contracts, so there is always a possibility that the club may want to cash in on him this summer.
Arsenal reportedly see this as a potential opportunity to sign a top defensive option in midfield which Mikel Arteta is looking to add to his squad.
The Daily Star adds that Arsenal are ready to sound out whether their London rivals will cash in on Kante this summer.
The France international is certainly still an important part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans. The German manager recently described Kante as Chelsea’s “Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk” (via Goal).
However, it is also very clear that Kante has been struggling with injury problems which makes him a less reliable option than he used to be.
According to Transfermarkt, the energetic midfielder missed 16 games for Chelsea last season due to various fitness issues.
It remains unclear whether Chelsea would offer the former Leicester City star a new contract if they received good offers from other clubs.
The Daily Star also mentions that Manchester United have also been keeping an eye on Kante’s situation, although their new manager Erik ten Hag prioritises the pursuit of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong at the moment.
Kante is not part of the 29-man Chelsea squad who travelled to the United States for Chelsea’s pre-season tour due to his vaccination status, alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
