Atletico Madrid are reportedly preparing a bid for Chelsea attacker Alvaro Morata to sign him on a permanent basis.
The centre-forward is currently six months through an 18-month loan spell at the La Liga giants.
The Telegraph previously reported that the Blues informed the Spanish outfit that they would consider terminating his loan deal this summer if they didn’t pay up to sign him permanently.
According to the Telegraph on Friday, Atletico are now weighing up an offer for the Spain international due to fears of losing him.
It is understood they are “optimistic” a deal can be agreed to keep him and the player wants to stay in Spain with them.
The report details it’s “likely” Morata ends up joining Atletico on a permanent basis and Chelsea could get £50million for him.
It looks like Chelsea will be able to offload Morata and it’s good news for the club, as he didn’t quite have what it takes to make a serious impact in English football.
The striker netted 24 goals in 72 games for the West London club, but was fairly inconsistent in front of goal and is more suited to La Liga.
New head coach Frank Lampard needs to prepare his forward options for the new campaign, where it looks like Michy Batshuayi, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham will be the main options.
Morata shouldn’t feature in those plans and receiving £50million for him would be strong business.
