Report: Barcelona and Bayern Munich leading race to sign Chelsea star
Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen refuses to consider proposals from other English clubs, but two European clubs are in pole position to sign him on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Christensen is one of the three Blues defenders, alongside Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta, whose contracts expire at the end of the season.
Chelsea have yet to reach an agreement with the 25-year-old and his representatives, but Romano claims that, as it stands, the new contract proposal is still on the table.
The uncertainty over Christensen’s future at Stamford Bridge has reportedly caught the attention of other clubs, including a number of Premier League clubs who, according to Romano, have approached the player.
However, Christensen reportedly wants to respect Chelsea and refuses to consider any offer from these English clubs.
It does not necessarily make it a one-horse race for Chelsea, however.
Christensen appears to be open to leaving the Premier League as Barcelona and Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the race for his signature.
Despite Thomas Tuchel’s clearly seeing him as a valuable squad member, the Denmark international has largely been a rotation player under the manager.
His versatility, which arguably makes him a viable option for any position in the back three, also makes him an ideal player for this role.
Trevoh Chalobah and Reece James’ injury absences, which also forces Cesar Azpilicueta to spend a lot more time as a wing-back, means Christensen might feature a lot in the starting line-up in the next few weeks [if he recovers from his injury soon], but he has yet to cement his place as a regular starter.
