Report: Barcelona new boss Xavi targets three Chelsea players as January loan options

Barcelona are monitoring three Chelsea attackers, who are struggling for regular game time at Stamford Bridge, as potential loan targets in January, according to Sport.

It is now pretty obvious to everyone that the Catalan club are not in a strong financial position at the moment.

After losing Lionel Messi in the summer, Barcelona now sit ninth in La Liga and are at serious risk of missing out on a top-four finish.

The last time they failed to finish in the top four was almost two decades ago in 2002/03.

Unsurprisingly, they recently sacked Ronald Koeman and appointed Xavi Hernandez as the new manager.

Despite the financial issues, Xavi understandably still wants to reinforce the squad. The solution they have come up with, according to Spanish publication Sport, is to bring players in on loan.

While Barcelona reportedly consider Raheem Sterling as their main attacking target, they are also aware that Manchester City are unlikely to let him go on loan.

They, therefore, shift their attention to west London, the report claims.

Chelsea have several attackers who are struggling for game time, and potential regular football at Barcelona could be an attractive option.

The three players Barcelona are closely monitoring are Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Ziyech, Pulisic, and Hudson-Odoi might want to leave Chelsea for regular football

Ziyech, in particular, was already on Barcelona’s radar before he joined Chelsea last year.

Having thrived under Frank Lampard, he has unfortunately played a far less prominent role under Tuchel.

Pulisic, who just returned after a two-month injury absence, has played the fewest minutes in the Premier League (87) of these three.

Similar to Ziyech, he seems to be behind Mason Mount and German duo; Werner, Kai Havertz, in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi has featured regularly in the last few weeks, but it remains unclear whether he will keep his spot once Pulisic, Werner, and Romelu Lukaku are fully fit.

Bear in mind, Thomas Tuchel recently admitted that he had to turn down Hudson-Odoi’s request to leave the club in the summer in pursuit of regular football.
