Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has reportedly chosen Chelsea as a preferred destination.
The Daily Star claimed the Catalan side are keen on offloading the French defender to raise funds for the summer transfer window and already offered him to Manchester United and Arsenal.
But the report said Chelsea have entered the scene and made an enquiry for the centre-back.
It is said that Umtiti prefers to stay at Nou Camp, but intermediaries have allegedly told Chelsea that they are his preferred option in case Barcelona insist on selling him.
The report went on saying Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants a new centre-back with Fikayo Tomori will likely be sent out on loan.
The Blues have added Umtiti to their shortlist, but are reluctant to pay £45million Barcelona want for him.
Chelsea reportedly already have Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes on top of their list. The Brazilian defender really impressed Chelsea when both sides met in the Champions League group stage.
Magalhaes would cost Chelsea around £30m. This and the fact that Magalhaes is four years younger (22 years old) make him a better business from Chelsea’s standpoint.
However, Chelsea will also face competition for the defender, including from another Premier League club Everton.
