Report: Billy Gilmour wanted by Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona

A report from Spain claims Billy Gilmour has piqued interests from Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona after man-of-the-match display against Liverpool.

The 18-year-old made headlines with just his second first-team appearance under Frank Lampard in the 2-0 victory over Liverpool in FA Cup fifth round last Tuesday.

Spanish outlet ElDesmarque said Gilmour is now under Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona’s radar.

The report also said Manchester City’s manager is personally “infatuated” with the Scottish talent and eager to bring him to Etihad.

Fortunately for Chelsea fans, the club is in a good position regarding Gilmour‘s future. He signed a new four-year contract last September which keeps him under contract until 2023.

And the Scotland U-21 midfielder seems to have a place in Lampard‘s plan.

“I have absolute trust in Billy,” Lampard told Express. “I remember when he first came on against Sheffield United and we drew the game, people questioned this kid, but I have no problem with him.

“If he’s small in stature he’s huge in personality, and he’s also huge in talent. When I look at a midfield player I have lots of questions.

“Do you want to receive the ball in all positions and all moments? Yes, he does. Do you want to make angles and pick the right pass? Yes, he generally does. Will you put your foot in? Yes, he does.”

Gilmour joined Chelsea youth setup from Rangers in 2017.

He was given the nod to join the first-team squad in February following the winter break.
