Atletico Madrid may reportedly consider a move to try sign Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Atletico, who are Spanish giants and still in this season’s Champions League competition, could soon be on the search for a new shot-stopper.

According to Goal, Atletico’s current number one goalkeeper Jan Oblak may be open to a Premier League transfer in the summer.

It is understood the 29-year-old would consider leaving the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium after some very successful years, which included winning the La Liga title last season.

The report says Kepa, who’s the number two keeper at Chelsea, is a potential contender to replace him.

Kepa, 27, has managed to rediscover some real form in the past 18 months despite playing a back-up role to Edouard Mendy.

The £150,000-a-week goalkeeper has eight clean sheets in 15 Blues appearances so far this season.

Of course, Atletico’s transfer pursuit would need to wait until there is new ownership at Stamford Bridge. As it stands, sanctions imposed on Chelsea mean the Spanish club wouldn’t be able to pursue his signature, with three years still left on his deal.

Expect big Chelsea loss

It’s unclear on how much Chelsea value Kepa at, but surely the club can expect a big loss on the £71million they originally paid for him in 2018.

The ex-Athletic Bilbao keeper has definitely got back on track with his performances under Tuchel, so a lot has been done to repair the damage of a rocky start at Stamford Bridge.

In fairness, nobody wants to think about transfers when the priority is around a new takeover.

It’s important that someone behind the scenes has an eye on transfers, though.
