Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek will reportedly stay at Stamford Bridge this season as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
With today’s transfer deadline entering its final few hours, there is a fresh update about the future of the 25-year-old Blues player.
According to The Athletic’s transfer news live blog on deadline day, Loftus-Cheek is “not likely” to leave the Bridge today.
It is explained there has been speculation about the midfielder’s future, however, there has been little interest from the Premier League or elsewhere in Europe in him after last season’s loan at Fulham.
The report explains that Loftus-Cheek’s sizeable wages have also proved a stumbling block for any kind of summer departure.
It means that the Blues academy graduate will spend the next few months fighting for a way into Thomas Tuchel’s side and it’s believed he’s not given up hope yet.
Loftus-Cheek was called “brilliant” during last season by ex-Fulham boss Scott Parker, but he’s yet to really get back to his best since a serious long-term injury a few years ago.
Chelsea fans would love Loftus-Cheek to prove doubters wrong
Loftus-Cheek still has a lot of respect within the Chelsea fanbase as he’s a someone from the academy that has real talent.
However, his career is at a crossroads right now and it’s concerning he could spend this 2021/22 season on the sidelines without much football.
It’s going to be very tough getting into Tuchel’s XI and he’s yet to play a first-team minute in the opening four competitive games of the campaign.
He does offer something different though with his raw power, so he just needs to do his best to rediscover his A-game on the training pitches.
