Report: Chelsea 27-year-old's situation is under 'constant review', Blues could make new signing in his position
Chelsea could reportedly look to make a new signing in the goalkeeper position with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s situation unclear.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea may go in search of signing a new back-up goalkeeper.
The report explains the future of Blues shot-stopper Kepa, 27, is under “constant review”.
It is understood the London club may be on the search for a new midfield signing, too.
Chelsea could look at signing goalkeeper
It’s intriguing to hear that Chelsea may be looking to sign someone new to challenge first-choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in-between the sticks.
If Kepa does go, the Blues will need to add more depth in his position.
It sounds like new Blues coach Graham Potter may be given licence to enter the transfer market to sign a new gloveman, but perhaps there’s already a solution in place.
Gabriel Slonina, who was signed this summer for £12million, is an American goalkeeper on Chelsea’s books. The 18-year-old is finishing the MLS season on loan with Chicago Fire before moving to Stamford Bridge.
The highly rated teenager is definitely someone that should be in the conversation when it comes to keeper solutions.
Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel recently explained that Kepa considered leaving the Bridge this summer before eventually staying.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper is currently playing second fiddle to teammate Mendy in net, albeit he did make his first appearance of the season in Tuchel’s last game in charge during the 1-0 Dinamo Zagreb defeat.
With new Chelsea boss Potter renowned for using keepers that can play out from the back, many supporters are expecting Kepa to give Mendy a proper fight for the starting position.
Perhaps Kepa’s future will be decided in the next few weeks as he looks to get back into the best line-up.
