Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will reportedly not stand in the way of Timo Werner if he pushes for an exit at the end of the season.

According to SPORT1, the club’s chain of command and their manager would allow Werner to leave Stamford Bridge if a suitable offer came in.

The 26-year-old has been mentioned as a possible departure from the Stamford Bridge airport, with the summer window approaching ever closer.

What’s gone wrong for Werner?

He is not even at the end of his second season at Chelsea, but the signs are already pointing towards an early exit.

It seems unlikely the German international will live out the entirety of his contract, which expires in 2025.

Things haven’t exactly gone to plan since he left RB Leipzig for the glitz and glam of the Premier League nearly 22 months ago.

Despite approaching 100 appearances for the Blues, the attacker has struggled to formulate any kind of consistency in the vital area of the pitch.

This was not an issue at all whilst he repeatedly troubled Bundesliga defenders.

Unfortunately, Werner hasn’t been able to replicate the numbers he racked up as a Leipzig’s main goal threat.

Although 38 goal contributions (19 goals and 19 assists) in 80 games isn’t a bad return, it’s the irregularity of such offerings that produce worries about the player’s capability.

Is time up for Timo?

His last serious goal streak was between October and November 2020, where the forward scored in four successive matches.

Treats like that have become rare to say the least.

Even starts are being awarded sporadically.

Therefore, it should come as no great surprise that Werner seemingly wants to reignite his career away from Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund could offer him a way out, as they have been tipped as one of his interested suitors.

Whilst we would be sad to see Timo go, we wouldn’t begrudged him for wanting a change of scenery.
