Report: Chelsea are now worried their £50m man won’t sign a new contract with them and is planning to leave

Reports suggest that Chelsea are concerned that Jorginho won’t resign a new contract with the Blues.

According to the Evening Standard, the club are concerned that his desire to return to Italy may see him leave on a free when his contract expires.

There is less than a year left on the 30-year-olds current deal at Stamford Bridge, after joining Chelsea in 2018 for a fee of around £50m.

He has been a crucial member of Chelsea’s midfield this season, as injuries and suspensions have begun to surround him in the early stages of the campaign.

N’golo Kante suffered a hamstring injury in the game against Spurs, while Mateo Kovacic’s start to the season has been plagued by injury concerns.

Chelsea worried Jorginho wont resign

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was forced off during the defeat to Southampton last week, while Conor Gallagher’s needless red card against Leicester saw him suspended for that very game.

This has ultimately seen Jorginho become a near ever-present in the team this season, before being rested for the weekend’s victory against West Ham.

However, the Evening Standard have claimed that the club are still concerned about his future, and if he remains committed as a Chelsea player.

His situation is not too dissimilar to that of Kante’s, who also has less than a year remaining on his current deal.

There are concerns over the frequent injury issues that have plagued him over the last couple of years, and to whether they are willing to keep him as their second highest earner.

Jorginho’s rest at the weekend will likely see him feature in the Champions League curtain raiser tomorrow against Dinamo Zagreb, with his experience in that competition likely to be key if the Blues are to mount any challenge this season.
