Belgian attacker Charly Musonda will reportedly leave Chelsea this summer.

According to The Athletic, the 25-year-old is going to be one of the players that departs Stamford Bridge when their contract expires at the end of the season.

He’s been with the Blues for 10 years after joining from Anderlecht back in 2012, but he’ll now go in search of a new permanent home elsewhere and won’t get a contract extension.

The attacking midfielder’s had a few different loan spells over the years, but his career so far has really been impacted badly by numerous injury problems.

His last first-team appearance for any club was during a loan with Vitesse Arnhem in 2019. It’s going to need someone to take a real chance on him if he’s to seriously kick on and try fulfil the potential which was spoken about several years ago.

Musonda will be leaving Chelsea with one goal in seven senior appearances, which came against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup in 2017.

Various levels of success

Unfortunately, there’s going to be some failed stories when you consider the amount of players on Chelsea’s books during the past decade.

For Musonda, it’s time for the skilful playmaker to try carve out a career somewhere else.

In contrast, there’s been plenty of success stories as well of players forcing their way into first-team plans at the Bridge.

Reece James and Mason Mount, who could reportedly both get new contracts, are showing the next generation how it’s done.

Meanwhile, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is someone that was trying to force his way into contention at the same time as Musonda.

He’s still fighting for his spot this season under Thomas Tuchel, who’s keen for him to push himself to the limit.
