Chelsea are reportedly close to completing a deal for AC Milan goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

According to the Sun, the Blues are close to securing the Spaniard on a £9million deal despite the fact he only made a switch from Napoli to Milan on Sunday.

The report adds that the 35-year-old wants to link up with his former boss Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge and plans to become part of his staff when he eventually retires.

Milan managed to pick up Reina on a free transfer this summer after his contract expires at Napoli, but he could be set for an immediate exit.

Reina is familiar to Premier League audiences from his time with Merseyside giants Liverpool, while he has also spent time at Napoli, Villarreal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich during his illustrious career.

The experienced shot-stopper was an integral part of Sarri’s Napoli team last season, keeping a remarkable 22 clean sheets in 47 appearances across all competitions, something that helped him earn a spot in Spain’s World Cup squad.

He would be in direct competition for the number one jersey with Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero if he joined Chelsea this summer.

However, there is much speculation around the future of Belgian Courtois and the Sun reports Real Madrid are chasing his signature.
