Reports from Italy suggest that Chelsea are considering launching a club-record bid to sign Rafael Leao this summer.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the club are contemplating making a bid in excess of £100m in an attempt to make a sensational last-minute deal this summer.

The Serie A player of the season has emerged again as a target for an attacker, after the club had showed some interest in his services early in the window.

There was belief that he was set to sign a new contract with AC Milan, however it has been speculated that may no longer be the case.

The Blues are certainly hopefully not hoping for their business to be completed yet, with there being just a week left of the transfer window.

They are continuing to track Anthony Gordon from Everton, with it being claimed that they are ready to increase their bid for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea considering bid for Leao

Gazzetta dello Sport have now claimed that they are considering going even higher for Leao, with them safe in the knowledge that it’ll take a club record bid to get the deal over the line.

The 23-year-old would no doubt excite fans far more than the rumoured purchase of Gordon, with many struggling to understand why the club are so intrigued by the Toffees man.

Leao meanwhile has shown he can operate in multiple positions in the frontline, with him contributing both goals and assists in Milan’s title winning campaign.

While the deal would no doubt be extremely expensive, it would end the need for both Gordon and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the Portuguese man showing a combination of Gordon’s promise and the Barcelona man’s ability in front of goal.

However, it’s likely that they may have left things too late to table a meaningful bid, with it surely unlikely they will break the bank this late in the window.
