David Ornstein claimed that Chelsea would be willing to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price for Kai Havertz and named Frank Lampard’s top defensive targets.
Havertz’s goal could not stop Leverkusen from crashing out of the Europa League after the 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan in the quarterfinal.
And with it, Leverkusen’s season has officially ended.
A recent report from ESPN claimed that Chelsea will hold more talks with the Bundesliga side over the fee to bring Havertz to Stamford Bridge in the next few days.
Ornstein, however, said that Chelsea are likely to be ready to meet Leverkusen’s demand for the 21-year-old.
Speaking on the Tifo Podcast YouTube channel, he said: “The situation with Kai Havertz and Chelsea will be fine.
“It just needs to be sorted out between Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen, which would take place after their Europa League campaign.
“I’ve been told Chelsea have indicated that they will be willing to pay Leverkusen want and they will [likely] end up with a fee in the region of €80million (£72m).”
Ornstein also said Chelsea are interested in Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell and West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice as potential defensive recruitments.
“I don’t think everybody is convinced at Chelsea about the fee that it will take to price him [Chilwell] out of Leicester’s hands, maybe around £50m, but Frank Lampard definitely wants to sign him,” he added.
“Lampard is also very fond of Declan Rice and would like to convert him from a midfielder into a top centre-back, although West Ham will demand incredibly high fee with sources suggested it would be in the region of £65m to £70m.”
