Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz ahead of tomorrow’s transfer deadline day.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are among the clubs weighing up the 24-year-old’s situation at Villa Park ahead of the close of the summer window.

It is understood the likes of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have set their sights on the Brazilian player, with the latter even tempted to table a £20million offer.

The report explains it’s likely the Premier League and Midlands side will ask for more than £20m, though.

Apparently, Luiz may be tempted into joining a team that can offer European football.

Chelsea eyeing Douglas Luiz

Luiz is a new name to emerge as a potential Chelsea target in the very final hours of the window.

Described as “underrated” by Jermaine Jenas, he’s a talented defensive midfielder that’s been an important Villa player in recent years. He has fallen out of the best line-up at the start of this new season, though.

The South American enforcer is dominant on his day, combining so many physical attributes alongside his footballing technique.

It’s quite telling that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola previously described the Villa midfielder as someone that’s “clever with the ball”.

However, Luiz may not have yet shown the kind of consistency that suggests he can be a marquee name for an elite team.

Chelsea’s midfield

Chelsea are linked with potentially making a late move for Premier League player Luiz, who from the outside does seem like a bit of a panic buy.

There’s no doubt Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is distressed with his midfield options right now at Stamford Bridge.

He’s already had issues in the centre of the park with a mix of injuries and suspensions, so the fanbase worry they may need a late midfield signing.
