Chelsea could sell three academy graduates this summer to balance their books this summer, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
Following the arrivals of January signings and the potential integration of returning loanees into the first team nextt season, it is very clear that Chelsea will have to trim their already oversized squad.
This will likely be a big challenge, since everyone knows that Chelsea need to sell, which only weakens their position in any negotiations.
Even worse, the club may even have to accept losses in order to move some of these players on.
Unfortunately for the homegrown talents, the fact that their sales would be the most profitable for the club makes them more likely to be made available in the market.

“It’s a complex situation because it comes down to contracts as well,” Ornstein told Sky Sports.
“Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are coming up to their final year, while Gallagher has an additional year.
“There is a lot of interest in Conor Gallagher in January from six to seven clubs.
“If Chelsea sell any of these players, which is highly possible now, then they would bag complete profit in terms of their accounts.
“That’s very attractive as a prospect given the [squad] turnover [they likely need].”
It is also important to note that each club need at least eight locally-trained players, with four of them club-trained, to compete in the Champions League.
While this is unlikely to be an issue for Chelsea next season, considering their position in the Premier League table, this also gives them a good reason to keep these academy graduates.
Aside from these three, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja are the only club-trained players in Graham Potter’s squad.
