Chelsea could reportedly soon signal the green light to sell club captain Cesar Azpilicueta to Barcelona.
According to The Telegraph, the 32-year-old may be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge once Jules Kounde signs for the Blues.
It is understood Chelsea are on the verge of signing Sevilla’s centre-back Jules Kounde, 23, in a deal worth around £55million.
The report claims Kounde’s arrival at Stamford Bridge could result in Thomas Tuchel’s side finally offloading £150,000-a-week defender Azpilicueta, who is keen to complete a move away in this window. Barcelona are waiting in the wings to sign him on a two-year deal, too.

Azpilicueta to Barcelona
Azpilicueta’s been linked with a transfer to the Camp Nou in this window, but nothing’s happened yet, and he’s taking part in Chelsea’s pre-season tour. Incidentally, he did miss the recent friendly match with a minor injury problem.
This latest report seems to suggest the Kounde deal could have a knock-on effect, though.
Azpilicueta, who can play at a high level as either a centre-back or wing-back, has been so vital over the years to the Blues squad. Also, he’s a senior figure that’s grown into a huge leader.
In fairness, Kounde’s versatility to play numerous different defensive roles is one that means he can replace Azpilicueta.

Blues leader
If Azpi does exit, it’s a significant leader that would be missing from the dressing room.
Fortunately, there’s others within the current squad that are emerging as senior figures. For example, Mason Mount has explained this week is desire to lead at Chelsea.
Elsewhere, young players can look towards perfect professionals like Thiago Silva or Jorginho.
There’s no doubt summer signing Raheem Sterling has the potential to be a big senior figure at the club, too.
