Chelsea are reportedly planning to extend the contract of their senior defender Thiago Silva, who only joined at the end of August.
The Blues signed the Brazilian on a free transfer in the summer after his departure from Paris Saint-Germain and he joined on a one-year deal, which also included the option of a further 12 months.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Frank Lampard’s side could be looking to renew the 36-year-old’s contract in the next few days.
The report explains that Chelsea may accelerate negotiations to try tie down his future quickly and he’s expected to sign the new deal.
Despite moving to English football in the latter stages of his career, Silva certainly hasn’t looked like a 36-year-old and injected some real quality to the Chelsea XI.
The South American centre-half has insanely helped to improve a backline that has struggled so much in the last year, with teammates around him really learning a lot from him.
His partnership at the back has massively helped centre-back Kurt Zouma find some consistency in his game, plus he can communicate in French with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy behind him.
There were many who doubted the thinking behind the Silva signing, but he’s shown he can definitely still cut it at the top level and his elite mentality is exactly the type of figure that the dressing room needed.
