David Luiz is looking increasingly more likely to be heading for the Chelsea exit doors and it’s been a crazy conclusion to the summer transfer window.
The Blues look set to lose the senior defender on Thursday’s deadline day, with London rivals Arsenal of all places set to be his destination.
L’Equipe reported on Wednesday that the centre-back skipped Chelsea training and was in advanced negotiations with Premier League rivals Arsenal for a move.
There has been widespread reports about the Brazilian and the Mirror are now reporting that an £8million deal has been agreed.
The report explains that Chelsea have sanctioned his exit due to the player’s desire to leave and move to North London.
It’s certainly come as a shock to most Chelsea supporters that 32-year-old Luiz has gone searching for a move.
First of all the desire to link up with top-four rivals Arsenal is mind-blowing, plus the fact he only signed a new two-year contract at Stamford Bridge back in May and appeared in line for an important role this season.
Blues manager Frank Lampard doesn’t want players that aren’t committed, so in the long run a move should help the squad and it opens the door for others.
Fikayo Tomori should see it as a blessing in disguise to force his way into first-team contention, while there should be more responsibility on Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen.
The way Luiz’s potential exit looks like playing out threatens to tarnish the reputation of someone that has achieved so much at Chelsea, so it will be intriguing to hear from the player himself once deadline day is over.
