Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri is reportedly Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte’s favourite to be his new left-back but the Blues refuse to lower their asking price.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Conte sees the 26-year-old as an ideal player to fill the left wing-back role after previously bringing in Achraf Hakimi to play on the other side of the pitch.
However, the report added that Chelsea have not budged from their €30million (£27m) demand despite the Italy international’s questionable future at Stamford Bridge.
Emerson is under contract with Chelsea until 2022 but, from what we have seen this season, he failed to impress Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
He made 20 appearances in all competitions under Lampard but featured in just three games since January.
And that includes Chelsea’s last match against Bayern Munich, in which Marcos Alonso was suspended and Cesar Azpilicueta was injured.
The Telegraph journalist Matt Law previously told London is Blue podcast that Lampard has identified pretty early that he needs a new left-back and considered it as the next priority after Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
It implies how unhappy the manager is with his current left-back options.
Emerson is often criticised for his defending, but it would not be as much of a problem if he were to join Inter since he would play as wing-back rather than a full-back in Conte’s back-three system.
