Report: Chelsea express interest in signing 22-year-old, who dreams of Stamford Bridge move

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Lille attacker Jonathan David, but they face competition from a couple of London rivals.

According to ESPN, Chelsea and Tottenham have already expressed an interest in the exciting 22-year-old talent.

In addition, the report states that Arsenal now consider the Ligue 1 forward as a potential target.

It is understood that Lille would prefer to wait until the end of the season before selling one of their prized assets. However, any late movement this month could spark a ‘bidding war’ for his signature.

David’s agent explained in 2020 that Stamford Bridge is one of the dream destinations where his client would love to play:

“He has been a childhood fan of Barcelona. Real Madrid, Man United and Chelsea are just as much part of his dreams, but for the time being we must remain humble,” he said, as quoted by The Daily Mail in February 2020.

David has been building his reputation since a transfer to Lille in the summer window of 2020, scoring 29 goals in 78 appearances for the French club so far.

His return of 16 goals in 30 games this season, including three strikes in the Champions League, suggests the youngster is only getting better.

Chelsea need another ST

Yes, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues could do with another forward in their squad to properly compete with Belgian frontman Romelu Lukaku.

They’ve got plenty of attacking options that can play a number or roles, but it would be great to have another out-and-out striker join the squad either in the final few days of January or next summer.

Thankfully, they don’t need to spent a penny to do that.

Armando Broja, who’s a massive hit out on loan with league rivals Southampton, is the man to fill the hole in the Chelsea squad.

The 20-year-old centre-forward has been linked with various Premier League rivals. It would be great to see him integrated to the senior group at Stamford Bridge, though.
