Chelsea are interested in two Premier League goalkeepers amid the uncertainty over Edouard Mendy’s future at Stamford Bridge, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
A recent report from The Mirror claimed that Chelsea have already told Mendy that they would listen to offers for him this summer.
It is perhaps a bit unfair since Mendy, who has recently returned to training after fracturing his finger, has not been able to fight for his spot in the team.
But the Senegal international is already 31, and if Chelsea are to keep one of him or Kepa Arrizabalaga, it makes sense to keep the latter, who is three years younger.
That said, former Blue Willy Caballero said in December that Mendy is the best goalkeeper he had played with, so Chelsea would have a reason to give him another opportunity.
The former Rennes shot-stopper was also named FIFA men’s best goalkeeper last year.

However, Phillips claims that Chelsea have already identified a few names as potential goalkeeper targets this summer.
“It just depends on what that goalkeeper is going to be, whether he’s going to be a first-team player or a backup choice,” Phillips told GIVEMESPORT.
“There is a couple I know that Chelsea are interested in.
“[Brighton’s] Robert Sanchez is one of them, and [Brentford’s] David Raya is another. But I haven’t yet heard anything on [Borussia Dortmund’s] Gregor Kobel.”
In fairness, it remains unclear whether Arrizabalaga would be happy to play a backup role again after recently becoming the number one under Graham Potter.
So there is a possibility that Chelsea may lose him, Mendy, and Marcus Bettinelli, whose contract expires this summer, and completely revamp their goalkeeping department.
Chelsea still have a highly-talented goalkeeper in Gabriel Slonina, who joined the club from MLS side Chichago Fire, but at 18, a Premier League football, even as a back-up goalkeeper, could prove too soon for him.
