Report: Chelsea face another transfer blow as 21-year-old doesn't want to leave his current club despite their interest

Chelsea have seemingly been hit by another setback in their pursuit for a wing-back this month.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Sergino Dest is determined to fight for his place at Barcelona, despite reported interest from the Champions League holders.

Dest-ined to stay in La Liga?

Dest remains on the Stamford Bridge radar, as they try and locate an understudy for the injured duo of Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

On paper, the Barca defender appears like a suitable fit, as he can play on either flank.

He also possesses a strong connection to Christian Pulisic, having shared a dressing room with the Chelsea attacker whilst away on American national team duty.

However, it appears the 21-year-old has ambitions of staying loyal to his Spanish employers, rather than switching to South West London.

After all, the full-back only arrived at the Camp Nou from Ajax in October 2020.

Plus, his contract does not expire until 2025, meaning there is some pressure to fulfil such a bond.

What else has gone wrong for Chelsea?

If Dest’s loyalty is true as Mundo Deportivo claim, then Chelsea will be rueing their luck once again.

They previously had another wing-back in their sights, but that one slipped through the net.

Lucas Digne looked like he was edging toward the blue side of London until Aston Villa diverted his course north.

The Blues are still trying to lure Emerson Palmieri away from Lyon and back to the English capital, by offering the French side a compensation fee to end his loan spell early.

This suggestion has so far been knocked back by Les Gones, however, Chelsea will not let this go without a fight.

Otherwise, January could be a very unproductive transfer window indeed.
