Chelsea reportedly failed in the summer with a major bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos.
L’Equipe claims that Chelsea made a €85million (£72.5million) offer in the most recent transfer window for Marquinhos, which was instantly rejected by French giants PSG.
It is understood that Blues manager Thomas Tuchel was desperate to raid his former club for the 27-year-old defender.
Apparently, he had plans to play the centre-half in a back three at Stamford Bridge alongside Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea should keep Marquinhos on radar
If Marquinhos can be prized away from PSG at any point in the future, Chelsea should be all over a deal for him.
Tuchel knows the Brazil international is a top quality defender after working alongside him in Paris, so it’s no surprise he previously wanted to bring him to London.
He’s a ball-playing centre-back that’s a senior figure in a star-studded PSG squad.
Silva has been a colossus since his transfer from PSG to Chelsea back in 2020, with Jermaine Jenas left waxing lyrical about his weekend display in the 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Interestingly, there are plenty of similarities to him with Marquinhos by their sheer presence in a backline.
Many Blues supporters are concerned about how 37-year-old defender Silva will eventually be replaced. However, Marquinhos is exactly the type of profile that could take charge from him like he’s done in France.
It’s worth noting that Marquinhos is still under contract at Parc des Princes until 2024.
