Chelsea may reportedly be interested in a move to sign Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong in January.
De Jong, 25, was a player in the spotlight during the summer months with plenty of transfer speculation around his future. He did end up staying at the Camp Nou, though.
The Dutch midfielder has played 12 games across all competitions so far this season, but has rotated in and out of the starting line-up.
.
Fabrizio Romano previously claimed last month that Chelsea pushed hard to try sign De Jong in the summer before he decided to stay put in Spain.
However, fresh links are now emerging involving the Holland international.

Chelsea interested in Frenkie de Jong
According to ESPN, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United now lead the race to sign De Jong should the player decide he wants to exit Barca in the upcoming January transfer window.
It is understood that the Blues have actually received encouragement the 25-year-old may be ready to reconsider his future, albeit La Liga giants Barcelona want to keep him.
The report notes Chelsea’s co-owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, have a good relationship with HCM Sports Management, who are the agents of De Jong.
It’ll be interesting to see if the fact Boehly knows his agent well can act as any kind of leverage.

With the De Jong rumours now resurfacing again, Chelsea fans may start to picture how their midfield would shape up with the Barcelona star.
Described as “amazing” by Jamie Redknapp, De Jong is a pass master that would bring so much to pretty much any midfield in the Premier League.
With N’Golo Kante’s latest injury sidelining him for four months, some may feel there’s an added pressure on the Blues to find a new reliable high-profile central midfielder.
