Chelsea have made an offer for Barcelona striker Memphis Depay late into the summer transfer window, it’s been reported.

According to Spanish publication AS, Chelsea have made an “important offer” to try bring the 28-year-old attacker to Stamford Bridge.

The report explains the La Liga giants now only have a few hours to make a decision on the Dutchman’s future.

Chelsea are already closing in on a deal to sign Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with the forward reportedly jetting into London to complete a move.

Could it now end up being a major double Barcelona swoop on deadline day?

Chelsea offer for Depay

Depay has previously spent a small amount of time in English football with Manchester United. Unfortunately, the spell didn’t quite work out for him at Old Trafford like most expected.

The speedster has proven elsewhere he’s a really talented individual, though.

He is a talisman for his national side, scoring 42 goals in 80 senior caps for Holland. Also, the centre-forward netted 76 goals in 178 Lyon appearances.

Described as a “terrific talent” in the past by Patrick Vieira, Depay finished last season with 13 goals across all competitions for Barcelona.

It’s obvious that Chelsea need some extra attacking ammunition for a forward line that keeps firing blanks, so could Depay be an upgrade on what they’ve already got?

Move could suit all

Depay hasn’t played a minute of Barcelona’s opening three league matches this campaign, so surely he’s desperate to play more football during the peak years of his career.

Meanwhile, he’s an intelligent forward that could bring something different to the Chelsea frontline.

For Barcelona, they need to weigh up if they’ve got enough depth in the front area of the pitch to grant his exit.
