Chelsea have reportedly made enquiries about potentially signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to GiveMeSport, contact has been made between the Blues and the Bundesliga side about a transfer for the Frimpong.

The defender has come in conversation in regards to a Chelsea move before this campaign.

Todd Boehly and his team apparently started to investigate the possibility of signing the full-back last month.

Cover at right-back seems to be on the agenda for the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

Reece James’ repeated absence through injury means captain Cesar Azpilicueta is often the only recognised player to cover this position.

Trevoh Chalobah has recently taken over this area of the field, but is naturally a centre-back, so his strengths or slightly limited.

A number of new options have been discussed, with Frimpong now seemingly amongst the maybe-list.

Chelsea could jump to Jeremie Frimpong

The 22-year-old is not the flashiest, or most expensive name on the market – he is valued at around £26m – but has certainly proven his abilities at the top European level.

He has started all but one of Leverkusen’s league games this term, contributing an impressive five goals in 15 appearances.

Last season, the Dutchman was clocked as the as the fastest right-back in the German top flight.

Like what you are hearing, Chelsea fans? Well, there’s more.

Frimpong has openly admitted to being a fan of the Blues, having previously named them as his dream club.

“As a kid, I used to watch Chelsea games with my uncle, mostly because of Didier Drogba,” he said.

We love him already!
