Chelsea have option to sign £70m striker who wants PL return in January

Report: Chelsea have option to sign £70m striker this January, he wants return to the Premier League

Reports from Italy have claimed that Chelsea have the option to match any offer for Roma’s Tammy Abraham in January.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the deal could be more likely to take place next summer, when his release clause of £70m becomes active.

After a strong first season away from Stamford Bridge, the England international has struggled to keep up his form going into the current campaign.

He has three goals and one assist in Serie A for Jose Mourinho’s side, paling in comparison so far to the 17 league strikes he contributed last season.

His rapid fall in form came at a nightmare time for him personally, with him missing out on a place in England’s squad for the World Cup.

Gareth Southgate elected to choose Callum Wilson over Abraham, with him being left at home in a similar style to fellow Chelsea target Ivan Toney.

Chelsea could sign Abraham in January

TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that the striker has always been keen on a return to the Premier League, saying that Arsenal are another club who are interested in his services.

Abraham enjoyed the majority of his success under Frank Lampard when Chelsea were under a transfer ban in 2019/20.

However, the following summer they spent big on attacking options such as Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, limiting the potential of minutes for the natural striker.

With Chelsea linked for the likes of Christopher Nkunku, it appears that they are looking a different direction for their striking reinforcements.

They have also got an eye to the future in looking to sort the position out for the next decade and beyond too.

The Blues are rivalling the likes of PSG and Real Madrid for the high-profile signing of 16-year-old Endrick, with him having the potential to be one of the greatest strikers in the game.
